A drum spinning with no heat, clothes still cold after an hour, a scraping noise that keeps getting worse: a broken dryer throws off the whole week. Need dryer repair Sherbrooke homeowners can count on? Our certified technicians come to your home with their diagnostic tools. They find the cause and explain the cost before touching anything. We can serve you in English over the phone.
On this page: the most common breakdowns, what to check when the dryer isn’t heating, the role of the heating element, why a drum stops turning and how the visit works. Washer acting up too? See our washer repair page.

Each symptom points to a few specific parts. Here’s where the technician starts.

The drum turns, but clothes come out cold and damp. Burned heating element, blown thermal fuse, thermostat or clogged vent.
The motor hums but the drum doesn’t move, or nothing moves at all. Broken belt, idler pulley, motor or door switch.
It takes two or three cycles to dry one load. Lint in the vent, a dirty moisture sensor or a weakening element.
A squeak, a thump or a scraping sound on every turn. Drum rollers, glides, pulley or bearing.
Nothing happens when you press the button. Door switch, start button, thermal fuse or power supply.
Stop it right away. Blocked vent, high-limit thermostat or lint built up near the element.

Safety first. Unplug the dryer before opening a panel: an electric dryer runs on 240 volts.
Before suspecting a part, rule out the simple causes. These checks take a few minutes and sometimes solve the problem.
A full filter blocks the hot air. Manufacturers recommend emptying it after every load.
An electric dryer is on a double breaker. If only half of it has tripped, the drum can turn without heating.
While the dryer runs, you should feel a strong flow of warm air. A flap blocked by lint, snow or a bird’s nest chokes the machine.
An “air only” or very low-heat cycle barely heats. It happens more often than you’d think.
If all of that checks out, the problem is probably electrical: heating element, thermal fuse, thermostat or control board. These parts are tested with a multimeter, with the dryer unplugged.
The heating element is a coiled resistor that heats the air before it enters the drum. When the wire breaks, the air stays cold even if everything else works.
A burned element is often the symptom, not the cause. A clogged vent makes the element overheat, and the thermal fuse cuts out to prevent a fire. Before changing the part, the vent needs to be checked, or the new element may burn out too.
Broken heating element or blown thermal fuse. Both are confirmed with a multimeter.
Cycling thermostat or high-limit thermostat cutting out too early, often because of poor airflow.
If it burns out again, look upstream: a crushed vent, one that’s too long, or one full of lint.
Turn the dryer off. Lint may have built up near the element, inside the cabinet.
When the drum won’t move, the sound the dryer makes says a lot. Listen to it before calling: it helps the technician bring the right part.
Broken belt or broken idler pulley. With the door open and the dryer unplugged, if the drum turns by hand with no resistance at all, the belt is probably broken.
Motor straining, or a drum stuck because of seized rollers or a jammed object. Turn the dryer off so the motor doesn’t burn out.
Door switch, start button, power supply or thermal fuse. On many models, that fuse also cuts power to the motor.
Motor overheating or a sensor cutting the cycle. Often linked to poor airflow in the vent.
Before calling, write down the brand and model, printed on the label inside the door opening or at the back, and describe the noise. A belt or rollers are ordered for the exact model.
A clogged vent doesn’t just slow down drying. According to a prevention document from Quebec fire safety services (in French), dryers may have caused at least 450 fires in Quebec since 2018, mostly because of lint and poor maintenance.
A few simple habits greatly reduce the risk, and your dryer dries faster at the same time.
No surprises: here’s what happens between your call and a dryer that heats again. We travel everywhere in Sherbrooke and to several towns in the Eastern Townships (see our service areas).
By phone or with the form. Give us the brand, the model and what the dryer is doing.
At the agreed time, with diagnostic tools. Your dryer stays at home.
The technician explains the problem and the cost of the repair before starting. You decide after that.
If the part is available, it’s fixed during the visit. If not, we come back as soon as it arrives. Parts and labour guaranteed.
Call us or write to us, we’ll get back to you.
It mostly depends on the part involved. A thermal fuse or a belt costs far less than a motor or a control board. We can’t give an honest number without a diagnosis, so the technician explains the cost before starting.
In most cases, yes. A dryer is a fairly simple appliance, and its common breakdowns involve accessible parts: element, fuse, belt, rollers. If the dryer is very worn and the problem is major, we tell you frankly.
No. Unplug it and wait for the diagnosis. A burning smell often signals lint near the element or overheating, two known causes of fires.
Most often, the air isn’t flowing well: full filter, crushed vent or one full of lint, blocked outside vent. If the venting is clear, the element or the moisture sensor may be the cause.
Yes, all brands, whether it’s a standalone dryer or a stacked unit. Give us the brand and model when you contact us: it helps us bring the right part.
At least once a year, more often if the dryer runs every day or the vent is long. Also empty the lint filter after every load.
